In July 2024, after being denied on 4 previous attempts, our fire company was awarded the Assistance to Firefighters Grant through FEMA. This is a highly competitive grant with limited funding awarded each year. Our award was for new breathing apparatus which each cost just under $10,000. Our new equipment arrived just after Christmas. The breathing apparatus we currently have are over 20 years old and do not have many of the safety features that current equipment has. While this award does not allow for the replacement of all of our current equipment, it’s a start and a step in the right direction.

The cost of all the equipment we need to do our job from basic hand tools, power tools, turnout gear and breathing apparatus to vehicles continues to rise just as gas, maintenance and utilities do.
